Narrative description of Project:  Objectives:

§  To raise awareness of the rural poor women about the rights and constitutional entitlements and protection given by the constitution of Bangladesh;

§  To protect the basic human rights of the adult women of poor familiers providing legal education;

§  To ensure access of the illiterate community peoples within 15-49 years old to education through providing centre based literacy and education;

§  To organise the rural  poor and illiterate women and  men at the forefront of family as well as social actions

§  To build capacity of the women’s group to initiating social actions and

§  To ensure the participation of the women in decision making process both at the family and societal level.

Target Beneficiaries: The illiterate community peoples within 15-49 years old

Activities:

·         Conducting a vulnerability and capacity assessment survey;

·         Bevelopment of the linkage with local community and targeted community;

·         Identification of the illiterate adult women;

·         Finally seledtion of the illiterate adult women and prepare a list of them;

·         Formation of groups of adult women at the selected community;

·         Raising awareness on literacy issues through motivational meeting;.

·         Ensuring community involvement through social mobilization;

·         Establishment of of legal education centre;

·         Formation of Legal education Centre Management Committee;

·         Preparation and collection of legal education and other teaching materials and aids;

·         Providing regular centre based teaching to the learners and income generating means;

·         Conduct teaching evaluation and

Ensure regular reporting to the client as per client’s requirements.  

Description of actual services provided in the assignment: Literate 2700 women, formed 90 groups, made well-aware the women group members and the community women, developed family economy of 2700 women, developed unity of 90 groups, made solidarity and reciprocal cooperation among 2700 poor women and women of 90 community, women are integrated with the local power structure, they have become self-dependent and self-reliant. Increased social values of women and participating in decision-makings. They were well aware asto their rights and status.

Integrated Development for Legal Awareness and Livelihood for Ethnic Adolescent Girls.

Narrative description of Project:

The project was designed to enhance the capacity of the 150 adolescent girls of the ethnic community, those who were deprived from any education, dropped out from primary education, vulnerable to drop out before completion of full course of primary or secondary education so that in future, they can lead poverty free quality life and they can be empowered both at the family and societal levels.

Initially, at each of the selected 3 communities/paras/mahallas, a needs assessment survey was conducted to assess the overall needs of the adolescent girls including their training needs and to identify the targeted adolescent girls. Then in each of the communities, a community resource centre (CRC) was established with the contribution of the community as well as the project, where all community level development activities were implemented including training to the adolescent girls.

During the whole project period, an awareness campaign was conducted by distributing campaign materials and organising   cultural events at the community level by the community cultural teams to be developed. Birth registration, child marriage, curse of dowry, importance of education, health, violence against women, trafficking and environment were major issues of the awareness campaign. The adolescent girls were provided with life skill training including livelihood/employment skill development, health education and problem solving skills that will empower them.

The training on livelihood/employment skill development, health education and problem solving skills were provided to the adolescent girls at the CRC. For this purpose, CRC was furnished with necessary equipments like tailoring machines, embroidery instruments and other necessary equipments.

The health education were included reproductive health and personal hygiene.

Description of actual services provided in the assignment: The actual services were provided include the organizational staff identified the adolescent girls and their parents and validate their identification and selection through community based detection process with the participation of multiple stakeholders using the RRA tool; after the identification of the adolescent girls and their parents, a primary discussion was held with their participation; as the part of needs assessment, RRA sessions were held in all selected three mahallahs with active participation of adolescent girls and community people along with their parents to assess their needs; after exploring their needs, through a participatory approach, the priority was fixed and based on the outputs of the RRA the proposed project has been developed and training and  health services are provided.
