The Largest Refugee camp in The World : Role of BHAGNI NIVEDITA MANCHYA (BNM)
More than 700,000
Rohingya refugees have arrived from Myanmar's Rakhine State in
Bangladesh’s south-eastern districts since August 2017. They've joined hundreds
of thousands who were
already living in refugee camps or with local communities. 600 000
people are squashed into the main camp, an area far too small to accommodate
their numbers. More than half of them are women and girls, 60 percent
are children under 18.
Many have arrived injured and deeply traumatized by their experiences,
with just the clothes on their backs. They need food, clean water and shelter
to survive, but above all they need to feel safe. People are living
in makeshift tents in hugely overcrowded settlements at risk of floods and
landslides. Conditions in the camps are woefully inadequate and unhealthy, with
overflowing latrines and contaminated water. They’re largely unlit and
dangerous at night – women, girls, and children are particularly vulnerable to
abuse, exploitation, and trafficking.
Ukhiya upazila situated in the South-East side
boarder area of Bangladesh. It is disaster prone area. The NAF river has been flowing by the side of Ukhiya &
Tecknaf upazila. This river has divided Bangladesh and Myanmar. Many people
called Royhinga Muslims in Myanmar have
died by Genocide Problems. In 20017, a big number of Royhinga Muslim People are
victims of violence and lost their lives in Myanmar. To save the life of these
affected Royhingas from this mournful situation , more than 1200000 Royhingas
has taken shelter in Bangladesh especially Ukhiya and Tecknaf Upazila under Cox’s Bazar district which
called Un registered Mayanmar Nations(UMN). These Rohinga victims have been
living in inhumanity environment in this location. They are living here through
camps with vulnerability. Conditions of these camps are too bad. These Royhinga
victims have been living in the camps
with broken house with unsafe life ,
full of water and muddy . They have no food, no shelter, no medicine, no human
security. They are living with various problems especially Water & Sanitation
(WATSAN). These Rahiyanga Refugees are
not educated and they have no health education. They have no knowledge
about environment and personal health & Hygiene practice. As a result, many
Rahiyanga refugees especially women & children are living with diseases. A
number of them are going to death too. It is threatened to humanity. Many National and International Development
organizations have been working for the shelter and to solve problems of
Rahiyanga Refugees in Bangladesh. But these initiatives are not sufficient. Bhagni
Nivedita Manchya(BNM) in a women headed non-govt. organization has been
working for the development of these
Rahiyanga Refugees in Cox,s Bazar district . BNM has been working especially in
Human rights and WATSAN sectors. The
organization has been working in Ukhiya Rahiyanga Camp No.11, Block A, Ukhiya,
Cox’s bazzar. BNM has taken initiative to work on WATSAN issues in Ukhya
Rahiyanga camp and developed this project.
